Nutritional Support for Healthy Skin

DESCRIPTION

This product designed by Douglas Laboratories, supplies essential nutrients needed for optimum support of the skin and connective tissue. This comprehensive formula provides vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and antioxidants that provide healthy maintenance of collagen and other connective tissues throughout the body.

FUNCTIONS

Ultra Preventive ® X: Studies show that a high percentage of adults in North America and other developed areas eat less than the minimum daily allowance of 10 or more essential nutrients. Adequate amounts and proper balance of these nutrients are needed not only for maintaining good health, but also for the dietary management of the body’s structure as well as the optimum functioning of its various systems, including the immune and gastrointestinal systems.
Opti-DHA: The omega-3 fatty acid EPA is the direct precursor for the anti-inflammatory prostaglandins E1 and E3, whereas DHA is of primary importance for the structural integrity of neuronal membranes. The essential fatty acids in fish oil play an integral part in regulating inflammatory processes in the body, Studies indicate that EPA and DHA can act as precursors for the anti-inflammatory prostaglandins E1 and E3, and decrease the formation of pro-inflammatory prostaglandin E2 and thromboxane A2. By regulating these processes, EPA and DHA can help provide healthy inflammatory maintenance to the body, including the skin.
Borage/Primrose Oil: Arachidonic acid is a precursor for pro-inflammatory immune mediators, the 2-series prostaglandins, e.g. prostaglandin E2, the leukocyte chemotactic metabolite, leukotriene B4, and platelet aggregating thromboxane A2. Thromboxane A2 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of coronary vascular disease, as it is not only a potent platelet aggregator, but also an effective vasoconstrictor. Although gamma-linolenic acid (18:3 omega-6) is a precursor of arachidonic acid, higher levels of dietary GLA actually compete with arachidonic acid, and may help downregulate the formation of excessive levels of proinflammatory 2-series prostaglandins and other immune mediators. Dietary supplementation with GLA has been suggested to be clinically effective in reducing the signs and symptoms of immune dysfunction. It has also been clinically associated with improvement of behavioral and physical problems, including premenstrual syndrome, learning disability, mental disturbance, weakness, poor coordination, and vision impairment. Tri En All 400: Vitamin E is one of the body’s most important antioxidant nutrients. Antioxidants protect healthy cells from oxidative and free radical damage. Free radicals are unstable chemicals formed in the body during metabolism and from exposure to environmental sources, such as pollution and cigarette smoke. Free radicals are necessary for energy metabolism and immune function, but when an excessive number of free radicals are formed, they can attack healthy cells, especially cell membrane lipids and proteins. This, in turn, is thought to contribute to a number of degenerative diseases. Vitamin E is an especially valuable antioxidant in the cell membranes, where it prevents oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids by trapping free radicals. This helps stabilize and protect cell membranes, especially red blood cells and tissues sensitive to oxidation, such as the lungs, eyes, and arteries.
Alpha Lipoic Acid: Alpha-lipoic acid is unique among biological antioxidants, because it is soluble in both water and lipids. This allows it to neutralize free radicals just about everywhere in the body, inside and outside the cells. Due to its unique sulfur-containing structure, alpha-lipoic acid can scavenge several types of free radicals, such as the highly reactive hydroxyl, and singlet oxygen free radicals. It is also capable of suppressing the generation of free radicals in the first place, since alpha-lipoic acid chelates transition metals, such as iron and copper. Because alpha-lipoic acid is involved in so many different antioxidant functions in virtually all body tissues, it has been called the universal antioxidant.
Multi Probiotic 4000: Oral supplements of live, beneficial intestinal micro-organisms for nutritional health and well-being are known as probiotics. Supplying approximately: Probiotic dietary lactobacilli colonize the intestinal tract, depending on the specific bacterium-to-host affinity. Bacteria are continually in competition for colonization space. The original bacterial colonies have an advantage over transient bacteria. Nevertheless, the composition of the intestinal microflora is dynamic and constantly changing.

If harmful microorganisms proliferate, the equilibrium is disturbed, and it becomes difficult even for indigenous bacteria to maintain their necessary territory to colonize the intestine. Antibiotics tend to kill off both beneficial and harmful bacteria, and thus may also disturb the normal, healthy balance of intestinal microorganisms.

Collagen Forte: Collagen Forte supplies significant amounts of Vitamin C, L-Lysine, and L-Proline in capsule form to help support healthy collagen synthesis. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) has numerous biological functions. Foremost, it is essential for the synthesis of collagen and glycosaminoglycans which are the building materials of all connective tissues, such as skin, blood vessels, tendons, joint cartilage and bone. Vitamin C is the required coenzyme for two groups of enzymes that catalyze the crosslinking of collagen fibers - lysyl hydroxylases and prolyl hydroxylases. As such, vitamin C is essential for normal wound healing and capillary health. L-Lysine is required for collagen cross-linking. Collagen cross-linking is important for resiliency and elasticity of the collagen and elastin present in all connective tissues and blood vessel walls. L-Proline, another amino acid, also plays an important role in coolagen formation. The body convert proline into hydroxyproline, which is used by the body to make into collagen. (as cyancobalamin and methylcobalamin)
